Recollecting Those Romantic Days of our Married Life in Thekkady

From the day of marriage fixation, we both started tailoring many plans and dreams for our future lives. There has been not a single day when we didn’t see each other in our dreams. It is always said that the day from marriage fixation till the wedding is one of the auspicious days in a couple’s life. It is the perfect time to weave future life. As the wedding date was commencing we felt very happy and started preparing for our wedding rituals and ceremonies. More than the marriage I was eagerly waiting for our golden days – honeymoon. As my fiance is working abroad he already informed us that he will not have many leaves, therefore, we decide to explore some of the tourist places in Kerala itself. As a wedding gift, his sister availed the honeymoon packages from the prominent travel operators. As it was offseason the packages were available at the cheapest rates. Soon after our wedding as per the plan, we check-out for our most awaiting honeymoon trip. The trip was to the well-renowned misty hill station known as Thekkady. It is situated in the Idukki district of Kerala.

We reached the destination from our hometown with 4 hours. As the road consists of potholes traveling was a little bit irritating but our chauffeur was very keen on driving and we didn’t feel our journey much horrible. As we were moving in the cab we passed many tall trees and the kaleidoscopic view of nature didn’t make us feel our traveling as cumbersome. The tour coordinators were there to receive us at the resort. We were handed over the keys to our rooms. Keeping our luggage we asked to report to the dining hall for the scrumptious meals. We both were so hungry that we were ready to swallow even minute creatures seen in our surroundings to satiate our appetite. Soon after the heavy meals, we rested for a while. By the early evening, we started our sightseeing program. As per the itinerary, we first visited the Periyar tiger reserve. It is one of the largest tiger reserves in India. To enchant the charm of the scenery we opted for bamboo rafting in the Periyar River. It is for the first time we were sailing in a raft, the experience was really awesome. The fact is the Periyar Tiger reserve is spread in the reservoir of the Mullaperiyar dam. The dam has a prominent place in the history of Kerala and Tamilnadu. The water from the dam is equally shared by Kerala and our neighboring state, Tamilnadu. The dam was constructed by the Britishers. And much more information was shared with us by our tour guide. To spend some quality time we visited the Mangala Devi Temple. The temple is visited by pilgrims as well as tourists. The premises of the temple scents silence. To learn more about the varieties of spices our tour guide took us to the Murikkady. Along with the spices the plantation is also famous for tea and coffee. From childhood onwards, I have a special craze towards the Indian art forms. Knowing my taste my hubby even though he does not love art forms agreed to visit the Kadathanadan Kalari center.

The next day we moved to Chellarkovil. The place is an iconic destination to mesmerize the stupendous beauty of the cascading milky waterfalls. The dazzling picturesque offers immense solitude and peace and grabs thousands of travelers per month. By noon we savored delicious dishes prepared in Kerala style. My husband loved the chicken curry prepared with coconut milk and I liked the dessert (known as payasam in the Malayalam language) made from Bengal gram. Soon after lunch, we moved to Kumily which is located 4 km apart from Thekkady. It is the perfect spot to witness the glory of nature. The roads are surrounded by beautiful flowering plants and tall trees with colored leaves. I just forget to add one thing in the beginning while strolling through the Periyar forest we also did boating in Periyar Lake. While boating in the lake we were lucky enough to view herds of an elephant playing in the lake. To be very frank our tour guide was such a humble and generous person that he took us to many places which were not included in the itinerary too. By understanding my husband’s craze towards the elephants (it is because he was spending more time in the Periyar Lake to watch the pranks of elephants also he clicked more photographs of them) he took us to the Elephant Junction. It is one of the most important places for elephants in the whole Kerala itself. It was my lifetime dream to ride an elephant and it was fulfilled in Elephant Junction. He captured the lovely photographs of our elephant riding. By the evening we returned back to our resort. After getting refreshed we were asked to reach the rooftop of the resort. We were confused about what it maybe? Why they might have called us at the rooftop in this shivering cold? Many questions aroused in our minds. The moment we reached the rooftop we were startled by viewing the premises being decorated for candlelight dinner. Also, we saw two violinists were there for creating a romantic mood. After relishing the scrumptious dinner we moved to our room. Without knowing about another surprise the moment we opened the door rose petals were showered on us. By placing each step on the rose petals we moved towards our bed. The bed didn’t consist of too many flowers but with rose petals were present here and there and a beautiful heart was created with bed cloth. In the midst of the darkness, the burning candles were the only light source.

We started our next day by having a mouthwatering breakfast and proceeded to the Spring Valley Mountain. It is also known as Kurisumala in the Malayalam language. It is a perfect place for trekking. Over there we met many travelers who availed the honeymoon packages to Kerala including airfare from Dream Holidays. After spending a few hours of happiness over there we moved back to the resort and packed our bags. While coming from our home we had only one bag but now we have two bags (another bag is full of gifts to our relatives). Words are really insufficient to express our gratitude towards our tour coordinators for unveiling the amazing destinations in Kerala.
