Kerala is truly one of the most beautiful destinations in India. It was proved to me when I toured the tiny coastal state in the South of India. Lush greenery to soothe your eyes, a light breeze to stroke your hair, the rippling backwaters to provide a rhythm to your tours and the lofty hills that remind you to stay grounded; everything in the land is about values and happiness. Nature seems to embrace every living being(which definitely includes me as well) with utmost care. In fact, you feel the protective shield of Nature around you. No wonder the land is called ‘God’s own Country’. I can recall every moment that I spent in Kerala. They were moments of bliss which ultimately lets you connect with Nature. The natural beauty and charm of this state are worth every single penny(in fact even more) that you spend to get to this bewitching land. I would also like to give some credits to our travel operator Dream Holidays too, for offering us a tour package to Kerala at a price that was quite reasonable. They catered to all our needs and made sure we weren’t experiencing troubles of any sort. Moreover, they took us to almost all the popular tourist destinations of Kerala. Speaking of tourist destinations reminds me of Ernakulam, which was my personal favorite. Ernakulam is a beautiful amalgamation of a place of all fine things. Here is an insight into some of the best places in Ernakulam.
Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary
Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary is a biosphere reserve situated in the central part of Cochin. It is a natural habitat of many rare species of both indigenous and migratory birds like the red shank, green shank, marsh sandpiper, brahminy kite and white-breasted water hen. It is also a perfect display of mangrove vegetation. The sanctuary is also home to a tidal lake which is actually connected to the backwater network. There is no entry fee to the sanctuary. It is open to the public from 9 in the morning to 6 in the evening. Since there are very fewer eateries near the sanctuary it is advisable to carry your own water bottle and snacks.
Cherai Beach
Cherai Beach is one of the best beaches in Kerala. People from far and wide come in here to unwind and enjoy the tranquility offered by the sprawling sea. Cherai also offers a wonderful view. The golden sands and the clear sea is a fantastic view all by itself. The cleanliness of the beach certainly needs a special mention. Cherai can be considered as one of the cleanest beaches in the entire country. It is also one of the most happening beaches of Kerala. Cherai Beach is located in Vypin Island. The beach is open all throughout the day and that is one of the best things about this beach. The beach is so popular that it is included in almost all the luxury as well as the cheapest tour packages to Kerala.
Wonder la Amusement Park
The country’s first theme park is situated in Kerala and is called the Wonder La Amusement Park. This park can be considered as one of the best places in Kerala to have a fun-filled time with your friends and family. The park has a lot of amazing fun-filled rides. Today, no trip to Kerala can be complete without visiting the Wonder la Amusement Park. The water rides of the park are very much popular and fun. The park is open on all days of the week but the timing might vary on weekends. On weekdays the park will be open from 11 am to 6 pm.
St Francis Church
Kadambrayar Boating Centre
Kadambrayar Boating Centre is a wonderful picnic spot located in the Kizhakkambalam Grama Panchayat. The place offers plenty of boating options and wonderful scenery as well to marvel upon. How about gliding through the backwaters in a ‘kettuvallom’ (a traditional boat in Kerala) as you gaze at the lush green surrounding the water network? What an experience that would be. Travelers who are looking for a serene experience can definitely visit the Kadambrayar Boating Centre. Next time you visit Ernakulam do make it a point to visit the boating centre.
